Spring Development Sessions

We are very excited to announce our spring Development Hockey sessions which will run from April 3rd to 25th at RBC Center, times and exact dates to be finalized shortly. The sessions will be lead by Jonah Leroux with Elevation Elite Hockey.

Age Groups: 

U9  Birth Years 2015 & 2016

U11 Birth Years 2013 & 2014

U13 Birth Years 2011 & 2012

U15 Birth Years 2009 & 2010

Maximum of 20 Skaters & 4 Goalies per age group

Cost: $225 for skaters, $175 for goalies

Session details: 6 dynamic skills development sessions (skating, skills, compete), 2 3v3 mini tournaments within each age group

**Goalies will receive goalie specific training.

Spring Development Sessions are open to Dartmouth Whalers Minor Hockey players only. Due to insurance reasons, all players registered for spring sessions MUST HAVE BEEN REGISTERED AND PLAYED DURING the entire 2023-2024 season.

An update will be sent out regarding registration opening once dates and ice times are confirmed for each age group, hopefully by the weekend.

Hockey NS Certified Spring Checking Clinic

Date: April 1st (see times below)

Location: RBC Arena

Registration Check in: April 1 @ 9:45 AM

April 1st 10:00AM to 11:30 AM  

April 1st 12:30 PM to 2:00PM

Registration for the checking clinic opens Friday March 8th 

Cost: $100 per player

Requirement:

• Players must be born 2011 or earlier to participate
• All players who are intending to try out for a NS U15 Major team in the spring or wish to try-out/ play checking in the 2022-23 season MUST attend.
• All protective equipment must be worn during the session
• Checking clinics are required to try-out for U15 AA, A, U18 AA,A. If a player opts to not tryout for these teams i.e. wish to play U15 B, then they do not have to attend the checking clinic.
• Goalies DO NOT attend the checking clinic.
• If player has already completed a prior Hockey NS certified checking clinic already, they do not need to take it again but are more than welcome to take it again as a refresher.
• Checking clinic will be run by a certified instructor. Any questions regarding this please email the development director Steve Coleman at developdirector@whalers.org.
• A certificate will not provided, players names, DOB's and HCR #'s will be sent to Hockey NS and their profile will be marked as having completed this once sessions are done.

An update and link will be sent out in the morning, on Friday, March 8, once registration is open.

The response was overwhelming to the request sent out for timekeepers for the U9 SEDMHA Jamboree and all spots have been filled. We are still weeks away and schedules may change for those that have already signed up so we would like to have a list for those still interested in being a timekeeper in case spots open up.

The Jamboree will run from March 28th to 31st.

ATTENTION Parents / Guardians of U9 Players born in 2015!

Whalers are hosting a U11 information session Tuesday, March 5th, 7pm - 8:30pm in the multipurpose room at the RBC centre for second year U9 parents with players starting U11 in the fall.

Everyone copied on this email is invited to attend in case there are questions in your area of expertise. If you can’t attend that is perfectly fine! We can answer questions as best we can and if something comes up we can’t answer we will table it and circle back.  

A lot changes in U11, and we want to be sure parents and guardians are well informed. This session will cover ice times, fees structures, tryouts, fundraising, and any other subjects you want to discuss. We will also have a panel of volunteers there for the Q&A portion of the evening.
