Interested in Officiating or Timekeeping?
Did you know that officials are one of the most important members of every hockey game? If you are interested in becoming a on-ice official or timekeeper, we would love to hear from you!
 
Eligibility
  • New officials must be at least 12 years of age by December 31 of the current hockey season
  • Reside in the Dartmouth Zone as defined by Hockey Nova Scotia.
How to Apply
  • All prospective officials must complete this application form 
    • Please note that submitting an application does not guarantee acceptance.
  • Applications will be reviewed between August and September, prior to the start of the season. If space allows and you are accepted for the upcoming season the Referee-in-Chief will contact you with information on the next steps, including registration for the required officiating course.
  • Please be aware that a limited number of applicants will be accepted.
 
Required Training
  • New officials must take the Introduction to Officiating Course on the Hockey Canada Registry
  • Once you have finished this online course, you will be eligible to register with your Hockey Canada Member Branch (Hockey NS), via a local Minor Hockey Association (MHA) and complete your in-person certification in one (1) of the following categories:
    • New Level 1 (12-14 years old); or
    • New Level 2 (15 years or older).  
Equipment
All officials are responsible for obtaining the required officiating equipment and wearing the appropriate attire.
