HRM Notification regarding RBC Rink A ice removal

Good Afternoon

Just a quick note to inform everyone that we have received notification that we will be losing Rink A at the RBC center as of November 28th. We have just received the below notification this morning and we will be working hard with HRM, Nustadia/ RBC Centre, our executives and other rinks to see if there is a possibility to relocate teams to help us absorb all of our ice times.

Please know we are aware andwe are being diligent in figuring it all out.  As for now, plan to have your teams on the ice for their regular times up to and including Sunday November 28th, 2021.

We will have more discussions this coming weekend and once we know more, we will send out an update.

Thank you for your patience.

Excerpt from HRM Parks & Recreation November 26th Email

Due to the emergency need to address homelessness in HRM, Regional Council authorized the CAO to implement a range of emergency shelter accommodations. Persons have been housed at the Gray arena on an emergency basis since mid-September resulting in all dry floor bookings, including lacrosse and ball hockey being cancelled.  The municipality is procuring modular units to provide accommodations for those individuals currently being housed in the Gray. Unexpected delays pushed out the expected date to have these modular units ready beyond the initially anticipated date.

To accommodate a winter season for lacrosse and other dry floor sports, and with the continued use of the Gray arena as an emergency shelter, the municipality is removing one pad of ice (Pad A) from the RBC 4-pad effective midnight November 28th. Dry-floor rentals will commence December 6th. There are 26 ice pads in the municipality. The Gray arena is typically the only year-round dry-floor arena in Halifax. To ensure as complete a season for lacrosse as possible and to reduce potential for further disruption, bookings will be rescheduled through to the end of the winter season (March 31, 2022).

Recognizing this will have an impact across all arenas and user groups we ask for patience and understanding from everyone as staff adjust bookings. We will aim to relocate and reschedule as many bookings as possible, with a priority on youth bookings however some ice bookings may not be able to be rescheduled and will be cancelled.
