Coaching Certification Clinics and Records Checks
Team Officials Take Note:
December 31 is the deadline for getting Criminal Records (CRC)and Child Abuse Register (CAR) checks in. Records checks are important to protect children from potential abusive or dangerous situations. Getting these checks done is an important responsibility which the Dartmouth Whalers takes very seriously.
After December 31, any team officials (coaches, assistants, trainers, and managers) who do not have at least one of their criminal records and child abuse register checks completed and in to the risk manager will not be permitted to coach or interact with the children on the team. Both of the forms must be completed as quickly as possible.
CRC and CAR must be renewed every three years. Divisional VPs have been asked to follow up with team staff to ensure that the checks are completed. WHEN YOU RECEIVE YOUR RECORDS CHECKS FROM THE POLICE AND COMMUNITY SERVICES, DROP THEM IN THE SECURE MAILBOX AT THE BOWLES or deliver them to 82 Shore Road (under the MacDonald Bridge).
Team officials also must have completed a speak out course (once in a life time) and have their appropriate coaching and safety training certficates. These records are carefully checked by Hockey Nova Scotia for any team making provincials. Let's get these records in and up to date!

All certification clinics will be scheduled and administered entirely by Hockey Nova Scotia. Hockey Nova Scotia books the facilities,
obtains the necessary resources, assigns the Course Facilitator and administers the registration process. Below you will find the
Course Guideline, Registration Form and Clinic Schedule for 2009.
Registration procedure for certification courses
Coaches are asked to review the schedule and sign up for the necessary clinic they require by filling in the registration form in full
and returning it to the Development Coordinator, Sean McKenna, by email at whalersdevelopment@gmail.com. Coaches are
encouraged to sign up for their desired clinics as soon as possible (before the registration deadline) as clinics fill up quickly.
The Development Coordinator will approve and forward the registration form to the course facilitator. A registration confirmation
will be sent to the individual coach once it is received from the clinic facilitator. It is very important that coaches commit fully
to the clinics they sign up for. The association/teams will be required to incur clinic fees for any coach who fails to show
up to a clinic. These costs will be incurred personally by the coach in these circumstances.
Please consult the clinic registration guide for further information. In particular, Section 5 outlines the clinics are required
at the various levels of coaching (rep and recreational) and Section 6 provides an overview of each clinic.
Payment
Payment for coaching clinics is the responsibilty of the teams (out of the team budget) or individual coaches for rep teams.
For recreational teams, one coaching clinic per team per year is covered by the Dartmouth Whalers. Teams will be billed for
coaching clinics as invoices are received by Hockey Nova Scotia. Please set aside funds in your team budgets to cover these
costs. Fees are listed in the clinic registration guide in Section 7.
